I thoroughly admire how much you've communicated here with so few lines. I can picture it being a poster for something starring Robert Mitchum, or, even being a shorthand still for the sort of movie he often starred in. There's a detective, eyes squinty from the smoke of his own cigarette. There's a lady with a secret--or who is otherwise reluctant to speak, move, or meet the man's eyes.
A detail I like--the cigarette is unfiltered!
Can't say enough good things about it, though.
What made you choose a background with darker and lighter spots, rather than a background with a solid color, though? It's an interesting choice, considering the economy of the rest of the work.
